Beating The Holiday Blues

The HolidaysThis time of year can be exciting. Parties, shopping, presents, family time and eating delicious food. On paper, it sounds like the perfect couple of weeks.

Unfortunately in reality, that is not the case. Sometimes, the holidays can be frustrating, stressful and downright exhausting. If you’re not careful, it can take an ugly toll on your body and mind.

Here are some ways you can enjoy the holidays, whether you’re doing too much or not doing anything at all:

1) Make a Schedule
It doesn’t have to be exact and pin-point. Just list things that need to get done this week, and how you will get it done. Work in some reward time after you’ve accomplished everything to motivate you. You deserve a treat too!

2) Me-time

If you don’t have too much going on, use the holidays to recuperate. Catch up on old hobbies, watch your favourite movies, go to your favourite places and just enjoy yourself. It’s important to take care of yourself when you have the chance and it’s good way to clear your mind for the new year.

3) Make a Holiday Playlist
While you’re shopping or decorating the Christmas tree, make it fun with cool holiday tunes! In today’s music industry, there are so many cool versions and remixes of normally mellow Christmas songs. Or if you like, stick to the classics! It’s a really fun time of year, and music is a great way to enjoy it. Taylor Swift’s Songs of The Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection and Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe are few of my favourite holiday albums.

Yoga Exercises3) Don’t Think Too Much
A new year is dawning on us and with that comes a lot of mulling and thinking. Surely, we’ve all done stupid things and unfortunately, that’s all we will probably remember. Instead, invest in some yoga exercises (some easy examples are shown at the side) in the morning and enjoy some silence. Stretch out your tense muscles and try to let go of all the bad things. Think of all the interesting people you’ve met, the new opportunities you’ve ventured on and the new experiences you’ve tried. Also, enjoy the food! I know everyone is obsessing over gaining holiday weight, but you only get a few times a year to be around this much awesome food. We’re still in the thick of winter so you don’t have to worry about a bikini bod for a long time.

4) Get Yourself a Present
This may sound silly, but I truly don’t think people appreciate and love themselves as much as they should. This year, give yourself a break and treat yourself. Whether it’s that amazing leather jacket or that new coffee table book, get it! You’ll feel really good and you shouldn’t have to wait for someone to give you your dream gift. You deserve it!

All in all, use this time to spend time with your loved ones and take care of yourself.
